They were all very hungry at lunch time. They went back up the cliff-path, hoping there would be lots to eat - and there was! Cold meat and salad, plum-pie and custard, and cheese afterwards. How the children tucked in! - Five on a Treasure Island, 1942.

When I sat down to write this introduction I originally planned to say a few words about why I felt the need to make fun of Enid Blyton. The more I thought about the matter, however, the more I became convinced that no such explanation was necessary. I hope it suffices to say that I like Enid Blyton. Her books amuse me. It follows that I must make fun of her. I hope that makes sense.

My parody is intended for the amusement of anyone who has ever read an Enid Blyton book. It takes the form of a series of short stories, each satirising of a particular Blyton creation. We pay a visit on the Famous Five and discover that a gang of paedophiles has moved into Kirrin Island. Will the Five be able to capture the intruders? We also visit the Enchanted Wood and the Magic Faraway Tree. The land of the Mature Age Feminist has arrived at the top of the tree and poor Moonface is captured! Will Silky and her friends be able to rescue him? Meanwhile, the Secretive Seven are annoyed that the Fabulous Five are stealing the limelight. The Seven set out to solve a high profile mystery of their own, while evading the continual attempts of Susie, Jack's pain-in-the-arse little sister, to spoil everything. Along the way, we also hear from Mr Pinkwhistle, Brer Rabbit and Mr Meddle and more of the usual suspects.

You can still enjoy this book even if you've not familiar with all the Blyton books. As the cliche goes, if you've read one Blyton book, you've read them all. I am more interested in making fun of the general Blyton formula rather than focussing on the details of any particular book. Here's the table of contents from the book and please don't forget to have a look at the sample chapters!
